在溫度22～30℃、相對(duì)濕度60%～80%的條件下，蛹經(jīng)過3天發(fā)育，蛹體由軟變硬、由黃變棕紅色，再變?yōu)楹诤稚泄鉂?。蛹?xì)て屏?、羽化成蟲，經(jīng)1小時(shí)后開始吃食、飲水、飛翔。3～5天后性成熟，雌雄蠅交配產(chǎn)卵。1只雌蠅每次產(chǎn)卵100～200粒，每對(duì)家蠅一年內(nèi)可繁殖10～20代，按生物學(xué)統(tǒng)計(jì)測算可產(chǎn)1億～2億個(gè)后代。成蠅一般喜歡白天在室外活動(dòng)，偶爾飛入室內(nèi)，善飛行。夜間多棲息于樹上或室內(nèi)天花板上，氣溫低時(shí)喜集在溫暖的地方。蠅類喜食甜的瓜果、植物汁液、發(fā)酵產(chǎn)物，更貪食新鮮人畜糞便及腥臭物質(zhì)；幼蟲主要孳生在人畜糞便堆、垃圾、物質(zhì)中，取食糞便及腐爛物質(zhì)，也有的生活于動(dòng)物尸體中。幼蟲老熟后潛入茅廁及糞坑附近的土表下化蛹，以蛹越冬，越冬蛹在土中深度可達(dá)10厘米左右。蠅類在一般地區(qū)，一年可繁殖10代以上，在溫暖地區(qū)可達(dá)20代以上。在終年溫暖地區(qū)，家蠅的孳生可終不絕，但在寒冷的冬季，則以蛹期越冬。成蠅6～8月為盛發(fā)期，蒼蠅性成熟后6～8日齡為產(chǎn)卵高峰期，以后逐日下降，到15日齡失去繁殖力。雌蠅一生的產(chǎn)卵期為12天，可產(chǎn)卵1500粒。
