Using photo-electrical counters composed by photosensitive resistances, LM393, SN74LS162, CD4511, CD4072, and 7-phases display tubes, the circuit is simplified. It is easier for maintenance, having a good adaptability to situations, and producing relatively stable signals. It is capable for multi-digital counting, manual resetting, and other advanced functions. To understand the process of designing this circuit, by using PRO and EWB emulation program to complete the prophase of design, including making the schematic diagram and wiring diagram, and the authentication of correctness of the project. During the phase of building and adjusting the circuit, all of the used equipment becomes familiar, and the techniques of connecting the circuit are grasped. Using the analysis of the results and the results from voltage and current test, the state of each component, short and open current and rosin joint are checked. The result shows: the speed of counting can be controlled by the light receiving time of the photosensitive resistances; LM393 Dual-voltage Comparator produces more stable signals by using reversed output rather than concurrent output, which keeps the Synchronized BDC Decimal Counter works steadily; The dual 4-in or gate, CD4072 provides the “extinguishing zero” function, which represents that number of the decimal nixie don’t light without carry input signal; to protect 7-phases display tubes from an overwhelming voltage, resistances are placed between the 7-Phase Encoder CD4511 and the 7-phases display tubes.
